Autologous fascia lata grafts for scleral repair in eyes with infectious necrotizing scleritis.

چکیده
Infectious necrotizing scleritis is a rare but devastating disease that often develops after trauma or surgery. A delay in the diagnosis or inappropriate treatment can cause a progression of the infection to scleral thinning and even perforation of the eye, resulting in endophthalmitis and blindness. For cases that do not respond to medical therapy or when the necrosis has advanced to perforation, surgical treatment is necessary to debride the septic tissues and to repair and stabilize the sclera. Here we describe the successful treatment of 2 cases of infectious necrotizing scleritis with autologous fascia lata graft transplantation.

Use of split-thickness dermal grafts to repair corneal and scleral defects--a study of 10 patients.
The use of split-thickness dermal grafts for successful repair of corneal and scleral defects is reported in 10 patients (11 eyes) who had non-infectious, impending, or overt ocular perforation. In all patients, traditional methods of reconstruction were deemed inappropriate or had already failed. Corneo-scleral defects occurred after various operations: pterygium excision, retinal detachment r...
متن کاملSuccessful Treatment of Infectious Scleritis by Pseudomonas aeruginosa with Autologous Perichondrium Graft of Conchal Cartilage
Infectious scleritis by Pseudomonas aeruginosa is a well-known vision-threatening disease. In particular, scleral trauma following pterygium surgery may increase the risk of sclera inflammation. Surgical debridement and repair is necessary in patients who do not respond to medical treatments, such as topical and intravenous antibiotics. We reports herein the effectiveness of an autologous peric...
متن کاملAutologous fascia lata for heart valve replacement.
To obviate the drawbacks of prosthetic devices and in search of a better substitute for diseased heart valves a technique of using autologous fascia lata grafts attached to a support frame was developed. The technique of preparing mounted fascia lata grafts is briefly outlined and their surgical implantation into the mitral, tricuspid, and aortic areas is described. Since April 1969, 83 fascial...
متن کاملRestoring abdominal wall integrity in contaminated tissue-deficient wounds using autologous fascia grafts.
Necrotizing abdominal wall infections, enteric fistulae, or exposed prosthetic material after ventral hernia repair often results in a loss of abdominal wall integrity. Further surgical reconstruction with prosthetic material is usually contraindicated in the contaminated wound because of the high infection rate necessitating prosthetic removal and further abdominal wall debridement. Consequent...

PURPOSE To report a case of delayed-onset bilateral scleral thinning and calcium deposition following a cosmetic ocular-whitening procedure (I-BRITE(®)). METHODS A 33-year-old male patient with a history of right-sided ptosis repair and left-sided anterior uveitis had previously undergone bilateral I-BRITE treatment for chronic conjunctival hyperemia. Four years after the procedure, the patie...
